Jane Nickles and her videos are incredible. She has such extensive knowledge regarding wine, and is able to teach an incredible amount in just a couple minutes.

Great job! I’ve learned quite a bit.

I think you bring up a great point. A wine’s bouguet greatly depends on how each winemaker flavors a given wine. While the nature of a Merlot has some very defined qualities, it’s bouquet can have greater variance depending on the barrels used, wood chips or other flavors added to enhance its aroma and flavor. Anyway, great observation.

Most interesting! Here in Spain a wonderfully orchestral merlot is produced in the Castilla region. It’s price in the local supermarket here in Andalucia is €1.99 which is around the $2 mark. Including the bottle! It’s definitely wild blackberry in the full string section with thrilling muted undertones from percussion and brass. It swirls itself in the mouth - no effort required. Interestingly, Castilla is also historically famous for its vast flocks of sheep.

Hi , I agree with you when you say that Merlot is a dry medium body red wine easy at the palate….but I quite desagree at your discribtion about the buquet in the Merlot wine, Is it that everybody can get a different smell in the wine? to me merlot has a toasted nuts nose, that I will recognise it most of the time , when somebody give me a glass of Merlot to me. I would like to hear if somebody agrees with me. thank you .
