In Ireland we say SHIRATS! lol
However romantic the story of Guy De Sterimberg, the variety Syrah is actually indigenous to southern France. A natural cross of Dureza & Mondeuse Blanche. Undoubtedly one of the worlds Great Grapes, and can make Amazing wines in France, California, Austalia, Spain, Italy, and maybe even the east coast of the U.S.A. That’s enough romance for me. Ha Ha Ha Cool post from EV, Thanks. Haven’t had a Texan Syrah yet, though.

The name Shiraz is taken from the city of Shiraz, Iran, where it is said that the process of wine making originated 7,000 years ago. According to some historic accounts, Guy De’Sterimberg brought Shiraz to southern France after visiting Iran during the crusades. Eventually, he became a hermit and created a vineyard on a hill near his home in the Rhone River Valley. This wine became known as the Hermitage.
